The apostle Peter, in his first letter written “to God’s elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia” included these admonitions:
“All of you, live in harmony with one another, be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.”
We might say by application that this was written to God’s elect who are members of the Southside congregation in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Think of this as having been written especially for us. We certainly do want to inherit a blessing one day.
Be a blessing so that you may by God’s grace inherit a blessing. Now go back and read again what the apostle Paul wrote to us.
