When the apostles of Jesus Christ established churches, they appointed elders as the overseers of those congregations (Acts 14:23). When Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, addressed the church in Philippi, he addresses elders, deacons, and the members (Philippians 1:1). The Southside Church of Christ is served by six elders. Twelve deacons serve under the direction of the elders. Each of these men were called out by this congregation, according to the scriptures after prayerful consideration of the qualifications spelled out in the scriptures (I Timothy 3 and Titus 1).
